When purchasing vertical pumps for seaside pumping stations, it is necessary to require that the vertical pumps have the performance of resisting seawater corrosion.
The seaside pumping station project we started in 2018 has received consistent client satisfaction from initial communication through installation in 2019 and subsequent maintenance. Our vertical seawater pump operates at optimal hydraulic efficiency, shows no signs of corrosion, and its components last longer than expected.
The procurement of vertical seawater pumps is complex and time-consuming. Customers need to have repeated communication and confirmation with our engineers on issues such as performance parameters, material selection, and installation dimensions. The delivery date and purchase price are also mutually agreed upon. For large-scale projects, you can receive professional technical support, rich case experience, and comprehensive services.
Vertical seawater pumps must be made from corrosion-resistant materials. 2205 duplex stainless steel is ideal due to its combination of austenitic and ferritic properties, offering excellent toughness, weldability, high strength, and chloride corrosion resistance.
The flow parts of the vertical pump, such as the pump casing, impeller, pump shaft, and guide vane body, are all made of 2205 duplex stainless steel. The structure of the guide vane body of the seawater vertical axial flow pump is complex, with significant differences in wall thickness. Coupled with the inherent property of 2205 stainless steel to precipitate brittle phases, casting the 2205 stainless steel guide vane body is one of the manufacturing difficulties for vertical seawater pumps.
After welding and cooling, 2205 duplex stainless steel retains more ferrite, increasing the corrosion risk at the weld seam.

● The welding of vertical pumps employs tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding, shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), and a combination of both;
● The welding line energy is within the range of 1.0 to 2.5 kJ/mm;
● The interlayer temperature during multi-layer welding is controlled below 150°C;
● When TIG welding is used, the shielding gas is argon with 3% nitrogen. The addition of nitrogen helps balance ferrite and austenite, thereby enhancing the corrosion resistance of the weld seam.
2205 stainless steel vertical axial flow pumps achieved high-standard welding quality inspection results.
- The seaside pumping station is operating smoothly in accordance with the designed parameter requirements.
- 7 vertical pumps, with a impeller diameter of 3.2 meters, each designed with a flow rate of 40 m³/s and a head of 3 m, have a total installed capacity of 17,500 kW for the pump station.
- The optimized flow path design of the vertical pumps increases the hydraulic efficiency by 4%, saving energy consumption.
- Duplex stainless steel 2205, with both high strength and excellent corrosion resistance, is cheaper than 2507, saving procurement costs.
- The pump body shows no signs of stress, pitting, or crevice corrosion and has a long service life.
