What is a chemical centrifugal pump?

Chemical centrifugal pumps are the type of pump that are widely used for conveying the highly corrosive fluids and high temperature fluids. They are more corrosion resistant, high temperature resistant and abrasion resistant than other traditional water pumps, and therefore have a much longer service life.

Chemical centrifugal pumps are designed to pump various corrosive liquids, so their main areas of application are in the chemical and petrochemical industries.  The pumping medium generally include caustic soda, brine, sulfuric acid, acetic acid, phosphoric acid, sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, CIP fluid, corrosive dyes, sodium hypochlorite, sodium nitrate, caustic alkali solution, ferric chloride, etc.

Overview of centrifugal chemical pumps

Sichuan Zigong Pump and Valve Co., Ltd. has been a well-known supplier of chemical centrifugal pumps for decades. Over the years, we have been providing professional pumping solutions to many customers both at home and abroad.  A pump that is not compatible with chemical fluids can be corroded or abraded, eventually causing leakage and failure.  This is why special consideration needs to be given to the materials used in chemical centrifugal pumps as well as the temperature and concentration of the fluid being pumped.  To ensure that the chemical transfer pump we choose will provide you with a long, trouble-free service life, pump user needs to provide complete fluid conditions, such as medium composition, temperature, specific gravity, PH value, solid content, etc.  The nature of the pumped fluid means that chemical centrifugal pumps are entirely made of chemically resistant materials, and commonly used metal chemical centrifugal pump materials include SS304, SS316, SS316L, duplex stainless steel, Titanium alloy, Nickel, Monel, Hastelloy, etc., Plastic chemical centrifugal pump materials include fluoroplastic, PTFE, PFA, FEP, PP, etc.

Advantages of chemical centrifugal pumps

  • Corrosion & high temperature resistance

Centrifugal chemical pumps are made from a variety of corrosion-resistant materials which enables them to work in the most severe applications in vairous chemical plants.  These chemical centrifugal pumps allow different chemical manufacturers to pump a wide variety of fluids under different conditions, even those that would quickly destroy other type of pumps.  Furthermore, the service life of chemical centrifugal pumps is significantly longer than that of other ordinary water pumps. Even if it is used to transport high-temperature and highly corrosive chemical fluids, chemical centrifugal pumps can withstand these harsh conditions, thereby increasing the user's return on investment.

  • Reliability of chemical centrifugal pumps

Centrifugal chemical pumps are a good choice for the chemical industry when they need to pump corrosive mediums. Their corrosion-resistant and high-temperature resistant designs have withstood the test from the chemical industry. Therefore, this type of corrosion-resistant and high-temperature resistant fluid transfer pump has become the ideal solution chosen by the entire chemical industry.

  • Energy efficiency of chemical centrifugal pumps

Compared to other types of pumps, chemical centrifugal pumps rank relatively high in terms of energy efficiency.  This gives them certain advantages over other pumping technologies in terms of energy efficiency.  The high efficiency chemical centrifugal pumps reduce the cost of operation in the short term and unit life cycle. This efficient pump device also reduces energy consumption, which is particularly important in an environment where there are a variety of pump equipment and other chemical machinery in the same time.

Easy maintenance of chemical centrifugal pumps

If a piece of equipment requires frequent routine maintenance, that is a very bad thing for the user of the equipment.  However, it is worth noting that there are few daily maintenance matters for such chemical centrifugal pumps.  Its simple and optimized design reduces the number of parts requiring maintenance to just a few pieces.  Therefore, this simple and optimized design greatly reduces the maintenance costs and frequency of shutdowns of chemical centrifugal pumps, thus saving a lot of time and energy for users.

Working principle of chemical centrifugal pumps

Before starting the chemical centrifugal pump, please fill the pump inlet pipe and pump chamber with the medium to be pumped.

With the start of the pump, the impeller of the pump begins to rotate at high speed, and the medium also begins to rotate with the blade. Under the action of centrifugal force, the medium flies away from the impeller and begins to spray out from the outlet of the pump. The injection speed in the diffusion chamber of the pump shell gradually slows down, and the pressure gradually increases. At the center of the blade, the medium is thrown around so that neither the air nor the medium produces a vacuum depression. The medium in the liquid pool flows into the pump through the suction pipe under the action of atmospheric pressure. The medium is continuously sucked out of the reservoir and continuously discharged through the outlet of the pump.

Steps to select the suitable chemical centrifugal pump

  • First of all, it is necessary to figure out the composition of the medium to be transported, medium temperature, PH value, specific gravity, solid content, vaporization pressure, etc., to select the material of the wetted parts of the chemical centrifugal pump, the type of mechanical seal, and the flush plan.  Wrong selection of materials and mechanical seals will cause production delays and significant economic losses for chemical companies due to the pump wetted parts material or the type and material of the mechanical seal that cannot withstand the corrosion of the medium or the high temperature of the medium.

  • Secondly, it is necessary to determine the flow rate and head of the chemical centrifugal pump.  Before making an inquiry, please clarify the flow rate and outlet pressure of the pump, the delivery distance of the pump, the number of elbow valves, and fully inform the pump manufacturer of this information.

  • Finally, please provide the detailed composition, temperature, specific gravity, viscosity, particle impurities, vaporization pressure, etc. of the pumped medium.  Different medium components require different materials and different mechanical seals and flush plans. The choice of mechanical seals and flush plan often determines whether the chemical centrifugal pump can operate smoothly and long-term in the future.
